Still looking young and good, Grandma Sim at extreme left |
We had the opportunity to interview Grandma Sim as two of her grandchildren are attending classes in Zigzag Learning. She has been living in St George’s for the last 28 years and has been through all the changes over the years here. Though she hears the occasional quarrels, she generally finds the place very quiet and peaceful. She is aware of the community events and programmes for elderly as there are people going door to door to inform residents like herself. She is very touched by their efforts and concluded the people here are kind-hearted. She seldom goes out nowadays as she finds it very inconvenient. “It is not easy as it’s a long way from my block to the bus stop and the MRT. It just gets tougher each year!” Her comment made us realise how inaccessible it can be for an elderly person to get to the nearest public transport from here.
